04/13/2008

Open water is the report now, which is great, its been a long cold winter. Best ice we've had in a few years. At times there was too much cold and too much snow, but all in all it was a very good winter.                 Looking forward to just as nice of a summer. Steelhead are in the rivers and hitting good. I'm getting reports of the Crappies moving into the coves and channels. Pike should be done spawning and the gills will soon go into the coves, looking to find some warmer water.

04/19/2008

I understand the Crappies are biting like crazy, Chippewa Lake is giving up some nice ones. Steelhead are still on the bite big time. Next weekend is the opener for Trout, Pike and Walleye. Bass catch and release season also. Don't forget to get your new fishing licenses.

04/22/2008

Everyone ready for the opener? Their calling for rain Friday night, should make the trout bite like crazy. Pike and Walleye open too, with Bass season starting with the catch and release season.

04/25/2008

With the rain we got last night and this morning the Trout should be biting like there's no tomorrow for the opener tonight. I'm hearing the big Perch are hitting on Rose Lake too, should also mean that Saturday the Eyes should be on the feed. Good luck all, and have a great opener.

04/27/2008

A tough opener for sure, all the rain left the rivers and creeks very high and muddy. I heard of a few nice Trout caught, one 28" Brown was caught in the Hershey River. The wind kept a lot of guys off the lakes, but for one guy that braved the wind, managed to get a nice 21" Eye off Rose Lake.

05/05/2008

What a great weekend, all I heard were good reports. Guys enjoying the catch & release Bass season. Eyes, Perch and Crappies were being caught on Rose Lake. Crayfish were found in quite a few of the fish caught, so Crayfish colored lures were the key for the Eyes, same with the Perch. Gills are starting to move in, hearing a few nice ones are getting caught. Trout season is getting a good start too, rivers are up with the nice rains we've been getting. Morels are popping too, most are finding nice messes of them. So when the weatherman tells you how bad the weekends going to be, don't believe him, two weeks in a row, they've told us how bad it was going to be and they were wrong. I'm thinking they just want everyone to stay home, so they can have it all to themselves, no one can be wrong as much as they are.

05/11/2008

Rose Lake is getting the best reports, nice Perch and a couple more Big Eyes have been taken in the past week. The Perch were over 13" and the Eyes were 28", not bad fish.

05/20/2008

Still hearing reports of nice Perch and Crappie being caught on Rose, deep with minnows for the Perch and suspended for the Crappie. Bass are on their beds, hoping everyone lets the Hawgs get their spawning in before they take to many. If you do keep Bass, let the Monsters go and keep the 14" to 16" for eating. Last year way to many Bass over 20" were kept and eaten, if this continues Rose Lake will not be the Bass fishery that is is now. Lots of nice Walleye in Rose to be eaten and they taste way better. :) Pike are also very good eating and remember there is no size limit for Pike in Rose Lake and you can keep five.               Suppose to be a very nice weekend, hope everyone gets a chance to get out and enjoy it. Be careful and have a great weekend!!!

06/01/2008

Season is going good, a little behind the last few years, but more on the schedule of a normal MI spring. Bass are about done Spawning, Gills are starting to get on their beds. Gills are real easy to catch this time of year, but make sure you let a few of the Big Gills do their thing to make sure there are some to catch in the years to come. Big Bass took a serious hurting last year on Rose Lake. To many over 20" were taken out and eaten. If you must eat a Bass please eat the smaller 14" to 16" ones, let the monsters live to spawn and carry out the terrific fishery that Rose Lake has to offer. Walleyes are plentiful in Rose Lake, just tough to catch. The Walleye thinks about taking your bait and while he's thinking about it the other fish are all over it.                                       Free fishing weekend is June 7th & 8th and its looks like its going to be a very nice weekend, so get out there and enjoy some time on the water.

06/14/08

Trout fishing is probably not the thing to try right now. Most streams are above their banks and the trout have been feeding heavy for weeks, with all the rain we've been getting. Gills are a different picture, their on their beds now and are an easy target. Spiders and poppers make getting a dinner if Gills an easy task. Bass are off their beds and starting to be in their regular  haunts

07/14/2008

Sorry for no reports lately, just hasn't been much new to report. Fishing is going good this year, I'm getting good reports from most of the lakes.  The lakes aren't as crowded this year and less Jet Skies and Power Boats with the price of gas, it seems to be slowing things down.

07/25/2008

Same story, fishing is going good, I'm not getting any bad reports, fish are being caught. Fishing pressure is down, along with pleasure boating. Gas prices are slowing things big time, not that I need to tell you that. Won't be long before the walleye start feeding more, as soon as the Bass tournament are over, we will be targeting a few of these tasty morsels. At practice on Chippewa his week, I tried to get a Walleye, but was terrorized by Pike, if your looking for some good Pike fishing try Chippewa or even Martiny.

08/26/2008

Wow its been a while since I've reported. Some say the fish aren't biting, some say they are. We went to Rose Sunday and had a ball catching Monster Bass. Next few weeks ought to pick up for the Walleye fishing, as it cools, the other fish will slow down and give the Eyes a chance to get to the bait.
